Reformation Sunday is one of my favorite festivals of the church year.  Not because it's a "Lutheran Pride" Sunday, but because it is a day we give thanks for the rediscovery of the Gospel that Martin Luther brought back into the church of his day, and the challenge the church  has to keep the message of Christ Crucified that is revealed to us through God's Word as the center of our proclamation today.  This sermon encourages us to find our true freedom in that story of Christ revealed to us in the Scriptures!

"Christ is in Our Boat" Mark 4:35-41

None of us are immune to stormy times in life.  In this sermon, we hear of a time where the disciples and Jesus were caught in a sudden storm that left the disciples afraid for their life.  In this text, we learn the comforting truth that Christ is in the boat with us in the midst of life's storms!

Living in a rural area, most of my parishoners here are familiar with planting seeds.  In this sermon, we examine two "seed" parables of Jesus and learn some lessons that Jesus has for the people of His day, and the church of our day, when it comes to planting and growing the Kingdom of God.

During the passion of our Lord, Peter denied even knowing Jesus.  Yet, in the book of Acts, he becomes a bold witness of the faith.  In this sermon, we discover the reason Peter is so bold in his proclamation of the Savior is found in the resurrection.  And just as it was for Peter, you and I can also be empowered to share the good news of the Gospel with others!

We all know what it's like to lose a loved one to death.  In this sermon, we see how through the will of God and by the Word of God, the Old Testament prophet, Elijah, gives a widow at Zarapeth new life by rasing her son back to life.  We see how this account is a foreshadowing of the forgiveness and new life that God has for us by raising His only Son from the dead to life as well.

I recently came across this video from my last Easter sermon when I was serving Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Audubon, Iowa and decided to share it with you all here. This was one of my first attempts at a "first person" type of sermon, in which we ponder the good news of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the point of view of Mary Magdalene.

For my dearly beloved former parishoners at Our Saviour's, I pray this sermon brings back some good memories for you as it did for me of my time with you and that you are once again built up in faith and the good news that Christ has risen from the dead. For those of you watching this for the first time, I pray that it will be a blessing for you in your faith.

In this sermon, we hear our Lord Jesus Christ speak to us about worry and anxiety, and share with us the good news that He has overcome all things and that no matter what it is that afflicts you this day, you can be sure its power over you is limited and your eternity is secure in Christ!
